The Luxury E-commerce Challenge
Luxury e-commerce operates under different rules than mass-market retail. According to a 2025 Bain & Company Luxury Report, 67% of luxury purchases are now influenced by digital touchpoints, but the online conversion rate for luxury goods remains below 2.5% — partly because customers can't physically interact with products before buying.
Velvet & Stone's challenge was bridging this gap. Their jewelry is tactile by nature — customers want to see how light plays off a sapphire, how a bracelet sits on the wrist, whether the gold tone matches their skin. A standard product photo grid couldn't deliver this experience, so we invested in immersive product visualization as the core differentiator.
The 3D product viewer lets customers rotate each piece 360 degrees and zoom into details — hallmark engravings, stone settings, clasp mechanisms — at higher fidelity than any in-store magnifying glass. The AR try-on feature takes it further: customers can see exactly how earrings, necklaces, and rings look on themselves using their phone camera, eliminating the biggest barrier to online luxury purchases. Post-launch data showed that customers who used the AR try-on were 3.1x more likely to add to cart and had a 28% lower return rate.
For brands looking to build similar immersive commerce experiences, our ecommerce platform development service covers the full technical stack, and our brand storytelling practice ensures the visual design matches the brand's positioning.
International Growth Through Localized Commerce
The 120% growth in international orders came from three strategic decisions: multi-currency pricing with dynamic FX markup, localized payment methods (Klarna in Europe, Mercado Pago in Latin America, Alipay in Asia-Pacific), and duty-inclusive pricing at checkout so customers never hit surprise fees. Each market gets a tailored landing experience while maintaining a single shared inventory and backend — no franchise-style fragmentation.
